Hampshire Cricket Board are delighted to officially announce the appointment of our new Disability Cricket Development Officer, Michael Powell.
“I am delighted to be driving the disability programme forward throughout 2024 and beyond, helping to build on our trailblazing programme which has been a huge success for a number of years.
Michael Powell, Disability Development Officer
"I am honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity to be working in a field that has been a personal passion of mine and has been a part of my life for such a long time. Without our support networks of schools, teachers, players, parents, carers, coaches and volunteers, we wouldn’t have such a successful programme, so I am extremely grateful for their support and look forward to working alongside them in the future, as we continue to promote and grow our programme on a much wider scale, helping it to attract a brand new captive audience”
Michael has been a part of our disability programme across the last twenty years, featuring in our Super 9’s softball County setup since 2004 and captained the Super 9s to Championship success in 2021. Michael has coached on our Lords Taverners Super 1’s programme for a number of years and has supported at a number of our SEND Schools Festivals.
“Michael is a real success story and is somebody who has been involved in the Disability Programme since 2004 He has a vast amount of experience within Disability cricket as a player but over the years he has very much been seen as a role model to his peers, leading our Super 9s team as Captain for a number of years. Michael still plays within our Super 9’s setup and coaches actively across our Lords Taverners Super 1s & SEND Schools programme, passing on his wealth of experience along the way after successfully passing his ECB Core Coach.
Mike Pollard, Senior Cricket Development Manager
Michael started his role as Disability Cricket Development Officer in February with us. This completes quite a journey for Michael, and with his passion and knowledge I know he will stamp his mark on the programme.”
“Michael has been an integral part of our disability programme for a number of years, his development and growth has been fantastic to witness, and we are delighted to welcome him onto the team. We look forward to supporting him in his ambition to take Hampshire’s Disability programme to the next level, and recognised as the leading disability cricket offering in the country”
