To celebrate the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup taking place in England this summer, HCB delivered a community event in Southampton, bringing together local residents for a fun-filled day of sport, activities and entertainment on Sunday 7th June.
The event provided a welcoming and inclusive space for local families to connect, try something new and be part of the excitement surrounding the Women’s World Cup. Throughout the day there was something for everyone to enjoy, with attendees getting involved in a mix of hands-on arts and crafts, cricket, football and fitness sessions. It was not only a chance to have fun, but also an opportunity to learn about sports opportunities available to them within the local community. With food and refreshments available, families were encouraged to relax, stay longer and enjoy the atmosphere together.
Lunchtime entertainment was provided by the Swan Samba Band, followed by local performer Dilraj with the traditional Indian drum (Dhol), creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.
A key moment of the day was the official launch of the Girls’ Hawks Academy, a Hampshire Cricket Foundation initiative designed to nurture talented young female cricketers and create a clear pathway for them to progress to the highest levels of the game.
"It was fantastic to see so many members of the local community come together to enjoy such a positive and inclusive day. The event was about much more than cricket - it was about creating opportunities for people to meet, have fun and discover the range of activities available in their local area. We'd like to thank everyone who attended and all of the partners and volunteers who helped make the event such a success."
Dani Ransley, Community Development Officer
