Charlie Wolfe shadows umpires at Utilita Bowl after being selected for the Rising Umpiring Opportunities programme
A young Hampshire umpire attended and shadowed the fourth umpire at the Southern Brave vs Birmingham Phoenix match at Utilita Bowl after being selected for event’s upcoming umpire’s programme.
Charlie Wolfe was selected for The Hundred Rising Umpiring Opportunities programme and took part in the shadowing experience on 30 July, spending time with officials and witnessing key events up close, including the toss.
She is one of Hampshire Cricket Board’s (HCB) Hampshire Champions and was selected for the programme designed to give aspiring umpires first-hand insight into officiating at the highest level of cricket.
“It was such an amazing experience getting to be a part of the Hundred Rising Umpire Programme. I gained so much from the experience, learning all about the roles of various umpires whilst being up close to the action.
“Seeing the behind the scenes really makes you appreciate the skill and effort put in by all the officials making The Hundred such a fantastic event. Thank you so much to everyone for making it such a memorable day.”

The Hampshire Champions Programme is open to all young cricketers aged 13-17 offering participants the chance to further their skills in off-the-field skills such as officiating, coaching, leadership and volunteering. It aims to inspire future leaders of the sport within the county and beyond.
Attendees get involved in various activities, from assisting junior sessions to scoring matches and even supporting the ground staff prepare the pitches. Charlie Woolfe attended the 2021 programme before being selected for this Hundred experience.
HCB is the official governing body for recreational cricket in the county and plays a key role in the development of grassroots cricket, with initiatives designed to make the game accessible for men, women, boys, girls of all ages and abilities.
